A different kind of fightEkurhuleni Online - During the past few days I started to realise one thing and that is that the fight against crime is not only against crime itself or the morality of our community as the root of crime in general, but also against the public and businesses themselves.
At time of peace it will for most people, including soldiers, be somewhat traumatic to see for example somebody died in a gruesome way but during war that experience becomes so common that our mind later simply block it out so that we can continue from day to day.
The huge rate of crime in South Africa seems to have the same effect and people simply block it out because it happens with other people and they feel save within the burglar bars and electric fencing around their homes.
What do you think will be the reaction if the newspapers tomorrow announce a 2930% increase in murders and a 2270% increase in rapes in South Africa during the past year?
Above statistics is not an example. It would be true and the hard reality for a country like Italy if their crime statistics increase to the same level as South Africa.
Italy, a country with the same population as South Africa and home of the Mafia have only 746 murders per year compared to South Africa 21 995 murders and 2 336 rapes compared to South Africa 53 008 rapes per year.
But such statistics makes murder, rape and other serious crimes so common in South Africa that the public and media simply dont care anymore.
This anti-crime campaign was last week brought to the attention of approximately 10 000 people, a press release was sent out to more than 140 newspapers and radio stations and a fax requesting support was sent to the CEOs of many of South Africa biggest businesses as well as to political parties.
Only 53 people signed the petition and not many more joined the report and warning system while not a single newspaper, radio station, business or political party responded up to date.
Can you now understand why the name of the article is a different kind of fight?
Maybe it is because people dont really understand the concept behind this anti-crime campaign so I will explain it herewith as easy as possible.
The concept behind the anti-crime campaign
We all know by now the massive success of open source software like Linux and also know about all the email petitions, virus warnings, free give-aways from Microsoft and Nokia and missing, dying persons and other similar emails that doing the round.
In the case of open source software ten thousands of programmers across the world work individually and co-operatively together to improve the open source software concept and quality thereof.
The basic concept behind the anti-crime campaign is based on the same principles where thousands of people and businesses can work individually and co-operatively together to improve and support the anti-crime project while the marketing is also done by people that spread the word via email and by other means.
Is it really necessary that one of your loved ones must be raped or murdered or your house left empty before you realise the seriousness of the crime situation in South Africa and starts to do something?
There is so much that you can do in a positive and effective way if we all work together.
For a starter just sign the petition and join the report and warning system will already do a lot as the STATISTICS itself already provide (or took away) the leverage power of the whole project.
It would also dont take much of your time to spread the word via email or by other means and as said before the whole marketing power are based on YOUR co-operation please.

I send faxes to many security companies offer them FREE membership so that they can post for example advice and tips that can saves perhaps many lives and makes the whole anti-crime campaign even more useful but up to date NONE of them even responded.
Dear South African citizen. Is one hour or even just a few minutes per day or week or month TOO much to ask?
It is NOT about me. It's NOT about the anti-crime project. It is not even about YOU or our lovely country.
It is all about our children and loved ones.
The whole anti-crime project is to try and ensure a better future and country for THEM by working together in a positive and effective way.
The bible and hundreds of other literature will tell you that unity is power and nothing is impossible if people co-operate so WHY am I still all alone?
Why is every single program and article and idea and whatever on the http://www.anti-crime.co.za/ and http://www.crime-news.co.za// website the creation of just ONE person, me, a hearing impaired person under a HELL lot of personal and financial pressure?
Everything was build in such way that people like YOU can co-operate and actually MAKES a difference instead of waiting for the worst or waiting for other people to take the lead.
The whole anti-crime project is about you and your loved ones and your country. It is yours to make or break because you are part of US where the us stands for citizens of South Africa that love their family, friends and country enough to actually DO something about it.
